Guadeloupe
When Columbus arrived in 1493, he christened the island "Our Lady of Guadeloupe of Extramedura." Disappointment followed as there was no gold, silver, or other valued items. When we arrived at Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe we reached a similar conclusion: an island with modern day poverty.

We found many street vendors looking like there were ready to pick up their goods and flee if the authorities came in sight. Carol dubbed them the "Bra Ladies" as many seemed to be primarily selling women's undergarments.
