Freemantle
Western Australia is not only the country's largest state, it is bigger than Texas and Alaska combined. India is about the same land size, but has a population of 700 million versus Western Australia's 1.5 million. Freemantle is the port for Perth. So, we docked in Freemantle and (below) crossed the railroad tracks and the train station to enter the city. Many of the historic buildings have been preserved—at least the facades—and evidence of the iron work used for ship's ballast is visible in many places. (below right) One of the main historic sights in the city is the Freemantle Prison.
