Ferrara
Another day trip by train—this time to Ferrara. Most Italian cities followed a Roman design of focusing on a central area and radiating from there. Ferrara is unusual in that it is linear and aligns along the Po River. (below) The Castle Estense or city hall. (right) The lion outside the cathedral.
John
(above, middle) Born in Ferrara, Savanorola was a firey preacher and may be best known for his "bonfire of the vanities" in Florence where he was later burned himself.
(below) The cathedral. And, of course, the Canadian couldn't miss the Canadian shop!
We pause to refuel before wandering through more of the city on the way to the train station to return to Bologna.
