The Lahaina Kaanapali Railroad is usually referred to as the "Sugar Cane Train" because the railroad originally was built to haul sugar cane from the fields to a refinery for processing. Nowadays, it just does a leisurely out and back six-mile trip from Lahaina to Kaanapali. Along the way it passes through people's backyards, next to shopping centers and gold courses, while gaining enough elevation to get views of the Pacific Ocean.
