Biking on the Freeway
biking on the pasadena freeway
It was a foggy June morning, but more than 2,000 intrepid bicyclers were ready for their first (perhaps only) chance to bike on the Pasadena Freeway. The freeway was closed for Arroyo Fest, a celebration of the historic Arroyo Seco and the Arroyo Parkway, now known as the Pasadena Freeway. Police were stationed at every on and off ramp to make sure no cars mingled with the bikers. The ride was 12 miles round trip—starting at the freeway's end in Pasadena and turning around at Avenue 26. Although you could only start at the beginning, bikers could leave at any off ramp. After driving this curving monster zillions of times, it was a real kick to do it by bicycle!
